Internet Mail is the type of email you get when you register for email on companies such as Hotmail and Yahoo.

You access your mailbox using a web browser, and your email is stored on their server.

Below are some advantages and disadvantages to using this type of email...

Advantages

If you don't have your own PC, then this makes email possible for you.

You can read and send email from your mailbox from any computer in the world.

Easy to change your email address if you need to, just register for another account.

Disadvantages

Email is stored on a server ...somewhere.

You have to be online to be able to read and send email.

Because your mailbox is stored on the internet, you rely on the account provider to maintain security. Nothing is 100% secure!

You are more bombarded with advertising (spam)!

Not all internet mail services allow, or support attachments.

If you are lucky, some ISPs allow both services, allowing you to look at your incoming mail using your browser, then using POP to download it onto your own computer.
