Imagine a letter which can travel around the world in milliseconds.
Imagine almost instant communication from anywhere in the
world.
Email is essentially an instant letter. You can
email anyone else at the click of a button, as
long as you know their email address.
All computers you buy these days come with an
email package. Windows comes with Outlook Express,
a fairly basic application but does the job nicely.
In order for you to send email, you will have to have an
'email account'. Your ISP (Internet Service Provider) will
probably give you an email account with your dialup account.
However, you are able to get other email addresses from different
providers if you wish.
There are two main types of email account. There is POP mail,
which is what you will be using if you use Outlook Express.
These are usually given to you by your ISP when you register
for a dialup account. The second is Internet Mail, which is
accessible from using your web browser. More information on
these two types can be found in the other pages of this section.
