WAN

Wide Area Network. A LAN which is distributed across at least one other building, normally by means of a router or modem. A WAN can be a series of LANs in different buildings connected together.

WAV

A term commonly used to describe a sound file stored on a PC.

Winsock

WINdows SOCKet. A 'portal' or 'socket' which Windows machines and the Internet software loaded on them use communicate with the Internet.

WWW

World Wide Web (aka 'Web'). The graphical side of the Internet, allowing the use of multimedia to stimulate the interest in a particular page.

WYSIWYG

What You See Is What You Get. A way of describing that the layout of a document on the screen (including fonts) is what you get from the printer.
