Example 1
Column A indicates that the address is
a website address. The www is not
alway's present, as it merely points the
browser to a particular server for the pages.
By default, www is used. (www
stands for World Wide Web)
Column B is the name of the company of
who's website you want to visit.
Column D is called a Top Level Domain (TLD).
This is country specific, and in this example
means a UK domain.
Column C is determined be the country the
TLD represents, in this case the UK. They
have determined that .co will represent
a company.
So, as .co.uk domain will indicate
a UK company. Generally only UK companies
will have a .co.uk domain.
Example 2
Column A represents the type of website
protocol currently in use. Http means
Hyper Text Transmission Protocol. This is
used by default in all browsers, so is not
alway's necessary to type it in with the
address as the browser will add it in automatically.
Column D in this address is what is called
a generic Top Level Domain (gTLD), which
is not country specific. So a .com
address could be an American company, a
UK company or any other company in the world.
Column B, as with Column A in Example 1,
indicates that the address is a website
address. The www is not alway's present,
as it merely points the browser to a particular
Server for the pages. By default, www
is used.
