Error Message: Port already open
| |
Reason
| |
This happens because of two main reasons: either
the modem is in use, or it is configured on the
wrong COM port, and there is something else using
that port, such as a serial mouse.
| |
Resolution
| |
To resolve this problem, either hang up if the
modem is in use, or see the Onlinehelp section
on modems to reconfigure your modem for the correct
COM port.

Error Message: Modem in use by another application
| |
Reason
| |
This normally happens when the computer tries
to dial to one number when it is already connected
to another, for example trying to connect to one
ISP whilst still connected to another.
| |
Resolution
| |
To resolve this problem, simply disconnect from
the first ISP before dialling the next.

Error Message: No dialtone
| |
Reason
| |
When this occurs, it is normally when a modem
is plugged into a phone extension rather than
the original wall socket, or services such as
call divert are active as sometimes they sound
a different dial tone. You can get the modem to
dial even if there is no dialtone.
| |
Resolution
| |
In the Advanced Connection Settings of the Modem
Properties page, there is a box labelled Extra
Settomgs. In here, type AT&FX0 and choose
OK. This should force the modem to dial even
if it doesn't detect a dialtone.
